Planning and Environment Law

Dean specialises in Planning and Environmental law matters

With a background as an environmental scientist working for a global engineering firm in oil and gas exploration, and having worked for a peak agricultural industry body, Dean specialises in planning and environmental law matters. Dean’s esteemed background means his clients receive 360-degree advice encompassing technical, practical and legal guidance.

Planning and environment law

Dean’s specialised insights, and a firm grasp of planning and environment laws, including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, means he is often called upon for advice relating to the prospects of success of a development approval based on early feasibility studies or the concept phase of a project.

Dean’s practice also extends to representing clients in the NSW Land and Environment Court on matters relating to planning and environment law, including development appeals, environmental licensing appeals, tree disputes, vegetation clearing, Aboriginal land claim cases, and civil enforcement of planning or environmental laws to remedy or restrain breaches.

Dean also acts for clients whose property has been compulsorily acquired under the Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991 and guides them through the process to seek fair compensation.

Waste, resource recovery and recycling

Dean acts for leading waste organisations across the eastern seaboard by providing planning and environmental advice on matters relating to compliance, environmental licensing, contamination, resource recovery activities, and regulatory disputes. He also advises on contract matters for the delivery of waste services. With Ross Fox, the firm is the exclusive legal advisor to the peak industry body, the Waste Contractors and Recyclers Association (WCRA), and an advisor to the Australian Organics Recycling Association (AORA).
